Ashley White

Multidisciplinary Artist + Designer

My work explores identity, heritage, and storytelling through layered visual narratives rooted in themes of abundance, resilience, and cultural expression. Working across collage, sculpture, and object-based practices, I create pieces that reflect the beauty, strength, and lived experiences of Black women. My practice examines how style, adornment, and presentation function as forms of communication that shape both individual and collective identity.

I am drawn to the ways material culture carries memory and meaning. Through collage and mixed media work, I merge traditional and contemporary aesthetics, layering symbolism and imagery that speak to time, lineage, and the evolution of Black creativity. Influenced by music, fashion, and cultural movements, my work considers the visual and emotional language of Black culture and its enduring impact.

My practice extends into sculptural and functional forms, blurring the line between art and everyday objects. Working with materials such as paper, metal, glass, and clay, I create work that invites both reflection and connection. At its core, my work is driven by the belief that objects hold stories, and through my practice, I aim to honor and amplify the cultural narratives that shape how we see ourselves and each other.

Alongside my fine art practice, I am the founder of Styledentity, a handmade accessories and object brand that allows me to explore adornment through wearable design and slow fashion. The brand serves as a parallel extension of my artistic interests, translating themes of identity, storytelling, and personal style into accessible, functional forms.
